Senate committees are a fundamental mechanism of Australian parliamentary democracy, enabling senators to conduct detailed scrutiny of legislation, government expenditure, and public policy beyond the constraints of the chamber floor. Committees bring together senators from across the political spectrum to examine bills in detail, conduct public hearings, receive submissions from experts and citizens, and produce reports that directly inform how laws are drafted and administered.
